A couple of days after our arrival from Umag the Digital Media class of 2004 - the first Masters of Science in Information Technology in Austria ever - had its graduation. It is the moment every student dreams of ... until it finally arrives and he (or she) realizes they are dreading it. For it signifies not only the coming of age, the transformation into a respectable member of society, but also the end of the student life, departure from the beloved university and, most importantly, saying goodbye to great a many friends accumulated over the years of hard work ...

We're back. Back from our one-week Croatia diploma trip. The town of Umag, more precisely the Stella Sol Maris holiday resort, fell victim to our shenigans. The Digital Media class of 2006 said goodbye to each other ... in a big way!

The 11th July 2006, 16:00 marked the time I successfully finished my "career" at the Upper Austria Polytechnic University of Hagenberg. At that time my one-hour diploma exam - consisting of 15-minute presentation of my diploma thesis, a 15-minute question time for my thesis advisor, and a 15-minute question time for my second examiner – concluded. This was followed by a 15-minute recess, where the diploma commission deliberated and then told me if I passed my exam or not ...

Today at 5:30 p.m.: Me and a couple of friends in the university's student office. Each of us holding in his sweaty hands two book-bound and one unbound copy of his diploma thesis. Accompanying CD-ROMs at the ready. The required forms filled out, signed, and prepared. Finally, three months of writing, six months of development later, I turned in the final version of my thesis.

Maybe not the most loyal one, but since I am generally fond of sci-fi, I was hooked since Star Trek: The Next Generation. I admit, I never seen more than two episode of the Star Trek: Original Series, for which every "real" Trekkie would have my ass ... But when I started watching Star Trek in the mid-90's, the show was simply too outdated to hold my interest.
